Description:
Lake Argyle was created when the Ord River was dammed in 1971. The tiny dam wall, 335m long and 98m high, holds back 10.7 million mega litres of fresh water and spans 1,000 square kilometres. The wall also includes a hydroelectric scheme that provides clean energy to surrounding towns and the Argyle Diamond Mine. By eliminating diesel generators, the mine has been able to reduce its greenhouse emissions by 70 kilotonnes per annum.
