A black flying fox (Pteropus alecto) hangs upside down in a large camp of flying fox in the Northern Territory’s Nitmiluk National Park. The bat’s wing membrane stretches from its tail, foot, four fingers, thumb and wrist, and up to its forearm. The claw on its thumb is used for scratching and grooming.
